Our luxury self-catering holiday cottage with hot tub is situated not only in the Forest of Dean, but it also is based in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty sitting above the river Wye. Walk straight out of the garden gate into the Forest of Dean and down to the river Wye for many picturesque walks or maybe even a river cruise! We are only a 30 minute walk away from the internationally renowned Symonds Yat viewpoint.
If you’re looking for a romantic break in a beautiful destination with many scenic places to visit on your doorstep then look no further. There are many beautiful varied scenic woodland locations close by to drive to & historic sites.
At the end of your day exploring the sights and sounds of the Forest of Dean/Wye Valley, retreat to Rowan Tree and unwind in your very own private hot tub. Ahhhh, bliss!

Boasting excellent road links, Rowan Tree Retreat is situated in West Gloucestershire, bordering both Herefordshire and Monmouthshire. The bustling market towns of Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye are just a short drive away, as well as the nearby historic town of Coleford. Or venture slightly further to discover the charming cathedral cities of Hereford and Gloucester.

Our luxury holiday cottage has something for everyone; whether you’re a keen bird watcher, nature lover, dog walker, or outdoor enthusiast. Rowan Tree Retreat is situated in a fantastic location with plenty of opportunities for walks, outdoor adventures and relaxation. There are many cycle trails, canoeing and rock-climbing sites close by. Spot the three types of deer (fallow, roe and muntjac) on your adventures in the forest, and if you’re lucky, you may even witness a wild boar!

Our luxury self-catering cottage with hot tub is just a stone’s throw away from 3 dog-friendly pubs; the closest being The New Inn at Shortstanding under a 10 minute walk away, followed by The Dog & Muffler at around 25 minutes walk away, and finally the famous Saracens Head in Symond’s Yat East. You can enjoy Wye Valley cruises, canoeing, kayaking, climbing, gorge scrambling, fishing and wild swimming all along the meandering river Wye.
There are some amazing Forest of Dean adventure sites nearby which offer multiple activities such as archery, adventure challenges, and zip wires. There are also 2 Go Ape centres nearby, including the Treetop Adventure at Beechenhurst (just a 12 minute drive away) and the Treetop Challenge at Mallards Pike (18 minute drive away).

Rowan Tree Retreat is a charming dog-friendly self-catering cottage, providing the perfect base for a fun-filled break with your four-legged friend. You can enjoy a vast array of dog-friendly walks into the Forest of Dean and down to the river Wye directly from the garden gate. There are multiple woodland walks including the lovely Mailscot Wood Trail and The Wysis Way, or you can walk across to the stunning Symonds Yat Rock Viewpoint. There is a forest café/shop within a 10/15 minute walk and various dog-friendly pubs within walking distance. We provide dog bowls, mud daddy for when they’re muddy!, doggy towels if you forget, treats and a comfortable soft large doggy bed! And most importantly the garden is enclosed.

Our luxury holiday cottage with hot tub is nestled in a peaceful forest location that is easily accessible. Venture into Monmouth, Ross-on-Wye or Coleford and discover the fantastic array of independent shops and eateries on offer. The famous Saracens Head pub in Symonds Yat is within walking distance along the river Wye, or can be easily accessed from the viewpoint at Symonds Yat Rock. If you’re searching for some cycling adventures, there are many cycle tracks just below Rowan Tree Retreat. Bring your own bike or hire locally from Coleford, or you can drive a short distance and hire a bike at other nearby forest locations!
